As in Russian, in English adjectives (with a certain generalized meaning) can have formal indicators marking the degree of comparison. Of such forms three. These two methods, when forming the degrees of comparison, are not applied arbitrarily, but in accordance with a certain principle.Monosyllabic (and some disyllabic) adjectives form degrees of comparison in a synthetic way, and polysyllabic (and most disyllabic) - analytical:
