The English verb has two main voices: active, or active (the active voice), and passive, or passive (the passive voice). All verb tenses, s which we have dealt with so far have been given in active pledge. These forms denote an action that is attributed to a person or object designated by the subject, that is this person or object performs the action itself. With the predicate in the passive voice, the person or object designated by the subject is not the producer of the action. Manufacturer actions in this case can be represented by a person or an object expressed by an addition, or can be implied.
The predicate form in the passive voice has the model to be + participle II, where participle II is a constant (its form does not change), while the auxiliary verb to be - variable value (it changes shape depending on from time, person and number). Using verb tenses in the passive voice obeys the same rules as in active voice:
Students of higher schools learn foreign languages.
Here the predicate learn has the form of an active voice, which reflects a certain relationship between the subject and predicate: the person designated by the subject, students of higher schools performs the action expressed by the predicate:
Foreign languages are learned by students of higher schools.
In this transformation of the previous sentence, the predicate used in the passive voice. This structure signals a change in the relationship between the subject and the predicate. The subject indicated by the subject foreign languages is not the producer of the action, it is itself exposed to the action, concluded in the meaning of the predicate. If you need to specify the producer of the action, then its role is assumed by the addition, which in this case is used with the preposition by.
