The Past Perfect Tense

<i>So, the present perfect tense
indicates an action that has completed by now. Being perfect, this action in most cases
transmitted into Russian by the form of the verb in the past tense. Following this logical principle, we can describe
the main meaning of the past perfect tense
perfect tense): it denotes an action completed by a certain past moment. The form of the past perfect
time indicates an earlier past action relative to another, later past. Later
the past moment can be indicated by the following phrases: by
five o'clock, by the evening, by the end of the week (month, year)
and so on - or this moment can be expressed by a whole subordinate clause with the meaning of the circumstances of the time
with a verb in the past simple tense:
<br>I had done my homework by seven o’clock in the evening.
<br> They had come by the time we arrived there.
In Russian, the past perfect tense always corresponds to the form of the verb in the past tense of the perfect form:
<br> I did my homework by seven o'clock in the evening.
<br> They had already arrived by the time we got home.
The later past tense in relation to the earlier past perfect tense, as a rule, is conveyed by the form of the past simple tense, which, depending on the situation, can occur both in the main and in
subordinate clause:

<br> When I entered the classroom, Steve had already gone.
